On Saturday, 16 October, representatives of the JLV Huellas Foundation and SMV Investment traveled to Poblanco, a rural community in the municipality of Santa Bárbara, in southwestern Antioquia, Colombia. The visit was organized to make a donation to El Guayabo School’s Poblanco campus and provide guidance on a range of legal matters.

In 2019, El Guayabo School’s Poblanco campus experienced a difficult setback when its technology equipment was stolen.

Since then, 37 students had been unable to use those resources for research. Many did not have a phone or computer at home. After learning what had happened, the foundation’s president, Pedro Vásquez, decided to donate four computers and sports equipment through Huellas so students could research schoolwork and play in their free time.

SMV Investment also provided free legal guidance. Residents asked about family matters, inheritance, divorce, division of property, subdivision of land, review of lot documentation and child-support claims, among other issues.

“It is a wonderful experience. The people who took part in this visit may not be able to afford a lawyer to answer their questions about dividing land or reviewing lot documents, and we had the support of a team of women lawyers. It is also deeply satisfying to help 37 primary and secondary school students, as well as 15 early-childhood pupils who, as they grow older, will be able to use the donated computers and sports equipment,” said Jessica Mejía, the foundation’s legal representative.

The foundation will continue working to help people and leave a positive mark on their lives.
